I would suggest that the four best romantic beach based vacation destinations in Latin America are Fernando de Noronha, Los Roques, the Maya Riviera and Providencia.
Los Roques, a set of lovely Caribbean islands owned by Venezuela, are an equally romantic place to honeymoon. The islands have a chic feel to them, with a handful of boutique style posadas that are particularly popular with Italians - a good sign if you ask me! (Combine with the rainforests of the Orinoco Delta, or Angel Falls and the Canaima National Park).
The Maya Riviera, on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, is where one will find some of Latin America’s most expensive, luxurious, romantic getaways. There’s plenty of spas here - it’s a great place to get pampered. Whatever you do, just avoid the awfully tacky Cancun. (Combine with colonial cities near Mexico City, or Aztec ruins found throughout Mexico).
Providencia Island is owned by Colombia and is found slap bang in the middle of the Caribbean. It’s a romantic honeymoon destination because it’s quite so beautiful and undeveloped - this is how the Caribbean was 30 years ago. The island is much unchanged by tourism - a real little gem. (Combine with Cartagena - see following section on romantic cities).
Fernando de Noronha is a beautiful island in North East Brazil, where one finds the country’s most beautiful (and undeveloped) beaches. It’s not a cheap place to visit, but it is very special indeed - Brazilians say that the countries best beaches are found here. (Combine with other beach destinations near Salvador, or possibly the Amazon).
These places are beautiful and look romantic. You can have an especially romantic trip and do so by staying within the U.S. - Sometimes the best places to go are local ones. Check out Cibolo Creek Ranch for starry skies and seclusion and luxury pampering.
